Kerry Lawrence is a vitreous enameller who works mainly in silver. Her primary interest is in producing functional but beautiful enamelled objects. She treats each piece as a miniature silver canvas on which to create an artwork. She has in the past produced some jewellery, but these days, tends to focus on larger items such as spirit measures and beakers and containers. Kerry makes most of the silver pieces that she then enamels, using traditional enamelling techniques, such as champlevé, basse taille and cloisonné. Her journey into enamelling began with a gift of an antique enamelled silver case. She researched the technique used and through this, discovered the work of more modern, world leading enamellers such as Jane Short, Fred Rich and Phil Barnes. Soon she was being taught by some of these masters and so began the journey of learning to work with this most unforgiving, delicate but beautiful material.
